OBITUARIES Portland Press Thursday, September 21, 2006 B11 Rivotto, 73, salesman, loving dad, active in charities, parish CAPE ELIZABETH Carl M. Rivotto, a retired sales representative who was active at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Cape Elizabeth, died Tuesday. He was 73. Mr.

Rivotto worked in the McGraw-Hill E.W. Dodge Division for 34 years. He began working for the construction reporting company in Northampton, was transferred to Maine in 1967 and retired in 1994. She was a homemaker and was a nember of the Community Chapel First Church of God, Mt. Dora, where she also managed the Thrift Store. She is predeceased by her sons, Thomas L. and Bradford Chisholm. She is survived by husband, Thomas B.

3, 1915, he was the son of Philip Anastasio Frank and Rose (Pettinato) Anastasio, graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford Class of 1933 and during WW II served five years on the Maine State Guard. Rivotto graduated from Shirley R. Lerman man passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, at Cedars Nursing Care Center, following a courageous battle with cancer. Shirley was born March 1, 1932, in Lawrence, a daughter of Harry and Bessie (Shuster) Gill. She graduated Bryant Stratton Business College and worked in the insurance industry for many years.

She enjoyed playing Mah-jongg, tennis, and being a member of a bowling league. She loved to travel, especially going to Atlantic City with her sister, Sandra. She cherished her time with her family. Shirley is survived by her husband, Carl; three daughters, Jodi and her husband Howard, Felisa and her husband Bruce, Pattie and her significant other Steve; and a son, Marc and his wife Lori; her sister Sandra and her husband Allan. She also adored her many grandchildren, Zachary, Bri, and Vanessa; along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at Bet Ha'Am Congregation, 81 Westbrook South Portland, followed by interment at Temple Beth El Memorial Park, Portland. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family after the burial at the home of Carl Lerman. The family will be observing a period of mourning on Friday, Sept.

She also loved camping. Diane was an expert marksman in her younger years, having placed as the top shooter of BB guns in New England back in the 1960s. She travelled the United States entering tournaments and received many awards and trophies. As a gymnast, she was also exceptional from a very young age, mastering complicated techniques on the trampoline, horse and parallel bars and high diving. She was so adept at these she was asked to exhibit her expertise in a one girl show for the Gorham school system.

She sewed very well and in high school made most of her own clothing including the designing of the outfits. She was an accomplished pianist, taking years of lessons and thoroughly enjoyed playing her deceased musician mother's piano. She also played the violin and guitar quite well. Diane was an outgoing, friendly, generous person who people immediately liked, calling her by her signature name "D.J." all her life. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Corsetti; and two children, Kayla Bouchard and Marco Corsetti.

She is also survived by her father, David Johnson; sister, Cheryl Johnson; brother, Kurt Johnson. Visiting hours will be on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Lafrance-Lambert Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street in Sanford. He was quickwitted and a fun person to be around," Blackwelder said. Mr. Rivotto and his wife loved traveling and taking cruises. The couple traveled throughout the United States and visited several ports in the Caribbean, Alice Dyer Elaine T. Burton Plummer, 79 Gray, 57 WINDHAM Alice Dyer Plummer, 79, of Main Street died Tuesday, Sept.

19, 2006, at her home. She was born in Standish on May 1, 1927, a daughter of Walter and Grace Farley Dyer. In 1945, Alice Alice Dyer Plummer married Franklin Plummer who predeceased her in 1982. Alice had a deep love for her grandchildren and will be sadly missed by her friends and family. Alice had a favorite song entitled "Baby Blue." She is survived by her two sons, Daniel Plummer and his partner, Patricia McDonald of Windham and Portland respectively, Wayne Plummer and his wife Teresa of Limington; two sisters, Arlene E.

Riley of Gorham, and Evelyn Wing of Gorham; five grandchildren, Jeff, Josiah, Jacob, Benjamin and Nathanial Plummer; and her two dogs, Stormie and Princess. Born Oct. 4, 1940, to Carl Avery and Earlene Burrill Belyea, he was a four sport athlete and Hall of Fame Member at Skowhegan High School.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1962, graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1966, and was a member of the 1965 Tangerine Bowl Team. Doug married the former Nancy Poirier of Skowhegan and they raised three children, Nicole, John and Andrew. Doug worked at Bridgton Academy for 30 years, where he had a long and respected career as a teacher, coach, and athletic director. He was also a well- known basketball official for 25 years.

At his retirement party in 1999, many of his past students spoke emotionally about the impact Mr. Avery had on their lives, many of them following his lead and entering the teaching profession, including his youngest son, Andrew. He was considered a tough but fair teacher. Doug was known for his unparalleled work ethic, his integrity, and his unique sense of style. Upon retirement, Doug and Nancy retired to Florida, but still spent summers in Maine, where Doug continued to work with the Bridgton Academy maintenance team, caring for the athletic fields.

He and Nancy were also avid golfers and member of the Bridgton Highlands Country Club. Doug could be found on the course with his golfing buddies, or in the woods searching for lost golf balls. Doug is survived by wife, Nancy Avery; daughter, Nicole Avery; son, John Avery and his wife Nancy; and granddaughters, Allison and Lauren; and son, Andrew Avery and his wife Kim. He also leaves behind sisters, Janet Pooler of Skowhegan, and Diane Severance of Florida; and stepfather, Donald Belyea of Florida. He will be dearly missed by his family and many close friends.

There will be a memorial service, Saturday, Sept. 23, at 2:30 p.m., at Bridgton Academy in the Twitchell Chapel, followed by a reception in the Dining Center. "He was my best friend and my traveling companion," his wife said, noting that she loved his personality and sense of humor. He also helped raise money for the Bishop's Relief Fund and Catho- John Frederick Leslie BRUNSWICK John Frederick Leslie, known as "Jack," died Tuesday, Sept.

19, 2006, at his home in Brunswick. Mr. Leslie was born on July 10, 1911, in Rochester, N.Y., the son of Charles Welby Leslie and Helen Buckley Leslie. He spent his childhood in Wellesley Hills, attending schools there and finishing at Avon Old Farms School in Connecticut. His family spent each summer by the Sheepscot River in Alna, which established his lifelong love of Maine.

From 1937 to 1941, Mr. Leslie and his twin brothers, Julian and Parke, built and operated the Moose Mountain Lodge in Etna, N.H., which had one of the first ski tows in New England. He then joined the U.S. Army, serving in the 26th Artillery Division, which supplied fuel to General Patton's armored pursuits in Europe during World War II. After the war, Mr.

Leslie worked briefly in the investment business in Boston and then became a designer for Victory Plastics in Hudson, Mass. In 1943, he married Joan Warland of Wiscasset, with whom he raised two sons and two daughters. In 1952, he moved his family from Massachusetts to Brunswick and joined his brothers in operating the Casco Bay Trading Post in Freeport. In 1958, he opened the Casco Bay Country Store in Brunswick, which he ran until his retirement in 1981. Mr.

Leslie was a great outdoorsman and sport, enjoying fishing and hunting as well as skiing, golf, and tennis. His artistic sensibility found expression in his gardens. He delighted in any festive occasion, and particularly loved family gatherings. He is survived by his wife; his son John Frederick Leslie Jr. of Los Angeles, and wife, Laura Ornest; his son Seaver Leslie of Wiscasset and wife, Anne; his daughter Kate Leslie Mann of Kensington, and husband, Neil; and his sister, Gloria Eisemann of Manchester, Mass.

He also leaves eight grandchildren, four boys and four girls. His daughter Constance Leslie Barker predeceased him. A memorial service will be held at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Wiscasset on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 2 p.m.

Neighbor Philip Harley described Mr. Rivotto as a nice guy who often helped him. "He was very level-headed. He was a perfect gentleman He thought the world of his family," Harley said. "I saw him on Saturday.

He was upbeat and had fire in his eyes. He was ready to go. He will be greatly missed." Melanie Creamer Albert Earl Winslow, 97 Burton Gray, 57, Elaine T. of Stonegate Road, Cape Elizabeth died Tuesday evening, Sept. 19, 2006, at her residence after a courageous battle from ALS.

She was born in Portland a Elaine T. Burton daughter of Gray Harold and Lorraine Dyer Sanborn. She graduated from Westbrook High School and Westbrook College. Elaine worked at the former Maine National Bank and other local banks as branch manager and other managerial positions. In 1977, she married Arthur M.

Burton then a senior bank manager, and Maine Banking Commissioner, and also served as president of Heritage Bank in Massachusetts. Elaine and Arthur returned to Maine where they owned and operated Sir Speedy Printing Service for several years. She was a very kind and generous individual, who was loved by all. She was active in business women's groups and was a member of First Congregational Church of South Portland. She was predeceased by her husband in 1994.

Besides her parents, she leaves her husband of six years, Kenneth F. Gray of Cape Elizabeth; a son, Christopher D. Burton of Cape Elizabeth; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Burton of Somersworth, N.H.; four step-sons, Arthur M. Burton IlI, Michael H.

Burton, both of Portland, Daniel L. Gray of Atlanta, and Nathaniel I F. Gray of Cape Elizabeth. Visiting hours will be held Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Jones, Rich Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St.

A service will be held Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at 10 a.m., at First Congregational Church of So. Portland, 301 Cottage Road, with the Rev. Dr. John McCall officiating.

Jim, Mary Jane, Kevin and Robyn FREEPORT Albert Earl Winslow, 97, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, at the Hawthorne House in Freeport. He was born March 18, 1909, in Freeport, the son of Perley E. and Lucy W. (Grant) Winslow.

Albert lived the majority of his life at the family home on Pownal Road. He helped to construct the current house. He was a member of the National Guard for 2-3 years before entering the U.S. Army during World War Two, serving on many islands in the Pacific Theater. He returned home and spent many years working in the lumber industry.

Even after retiring he delivered lumber for Portland Lumber as well as holding a part-time newspaper delivery route. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. for many years. Albert is predeceased by his parents as well as his sisters, Francis Davis and Stella Winslow. He is survived by a brother, Woodrow L.

and his wife Arlene Winslow of Plainville, nephews, Ronald B. Davis of New Port Richey, Rodney Davis of Richmond, and William L. Winslow of Freeport; nieces, Barbara and her husband Chuck Johns of Derry, N.H., and Bernice and her husband Richard Gauvreau of Lee, N.H.
