Edinburg, T.X. – The Le Moyne College men's basketball team will continue their trip south and take on The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros on Monday night with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
Series History:
Monday night will mark the first time the Dolphins and Vaqueros will face off in program history.
Common Opponents:
The Dolphins fell to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 81-62, in their final game of the Island U Invitational this past Saturday, Nov. 23. UTRGV will take on A&M Corpus Christi in two Southland Conference matchups later this season on Saturday, Jan. 11 and Saturday, Feb. 1.
Dolphins' Season:
After a 1-4 start to the 2024-25 season, Le Moyne hit the road and traveled to the Lone Star State to take part in the Island U Invitational this past weekend before completing the road trip against UTRGV. In their first matchup of the invite, the Dolphins took down UT Martin, 65-53, in their first road win of the season on Friday night before their loss to A&M-Corpus Christi.
Senior forward Ocypher Owens (Orlando, Fla./Orlando Christian Prep/Indian River State) led Le Moyne in scoring over their first two games in Texas, as he dropped 11 against UT Martin and 14 versus the Islanders. The games marked Owens' first since their season opener against Syracuse and he added 15 rebounds, four assists, and three blocks while going 10-12 from the free throw line in the contests.
Sophomore guard AJ Dancler (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) played his most minutes of the young season against UT Martin, as he hit the court for 29 minutes and dropped a career-high 16 points while going 50% from behind the arc.
Team leader in points per game, redshirt junior forward Dwayne Koroma (Berlin, Germany/Bishop Walsh (Md.)) dropped 20 total points over the first two games of the road trip, while shooting 9-13 from the field. Along with ppg (10.7), Koroma also leads the 'Phins field goal percentage (.750), and rebounds (35) through seven games.
Redshirt sophomore forward Nate Fouts (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) has been impactful all over the floor throughout the road trip, as he totaled four rebounds and two assists against UT Martin before tallying 11 points, seven rebounds, and three steals against A&M-Corpus Christi.
In their matchup against UT Martin, the Dolphins allowed the lowest opponent field goal percentage (25.4%) in a single game since the 2012-13 season when they held Dominican University NY to just 25% shooting.
A Look at the Vaqueros:
Most recently, UTRGV fell to #19 Wisconsin in a close matchup, 87-84 on the road on Monday, Nov. 18. The Vaqueros were within one as late as 1:02 left in the second half, but eventually fell due to two late free throws by the Badgers.
UTGV opened the 2024-25 season with back-to-back losses against Nebraska and #15 Creighton before putting together a three game win-streak with victories coming against Champion Christian College, Charleston Southern, and Tennessee Tech University from Nov. 10 - Nov. 16.
Hasan Abdul Hakim leads the Vaqueros with 15.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game this season. The senior guard has surpassed 20 points twice in the team's first six games, recording 26 against Creighton and 24 against Charleston Southern.
Guard K.T. Raimey trails just behind with 14.6 points per game, including a season-high 23 which came against Champion Christian on Sunday, Nov. 10. Raimey is also third on the squad in three-point percentage as he has converted nearly 44% of his shots from behind the arc this year.
Trey Miller leads the team in assists with 22 through six games, and has added 10.3 points per game and nine steals, as well.
Graduate guard DK Thorn has played a team-high 27.7 minutes per game this season and is the final Vaquero currently averaging double-digit points (10.0). Thorn played 38 minutes and shot nearly 50% from the field in the squad's loss to Creighton on Nov. 6.
Cliff Davis has rounded out the attack for UTRGV this season, as he is currently averaging 9.8 points and recently filled up the score sheet against Wisconsin with 10 points, two rebounds, a pair of assists, and one block in 22 minutes of action.
The Vaqueros are currently out tallying their opponents in field goal percentage, three-point percentage, rebounds, and assists per game this season.

The Dolphins will travel to Riverdale, N.Y. to take on Manhattan University (3-2) on Friday, Nov. 29 at 7:00 p.m.
